The Escambia County Contractor Competency Board on Jan. 8 unanimously approved Brent Hunter’s application to take the residential contractor examination after reviewing his out-of-state experience and licensure background.
Staff told the board Hunter documented 4 years, 1 month and 27 days of experience working under a Colorado qualifier, Scott Day (license CL-318, Brighton, Colo.), and that Colorado’s licensing definition differs from Escambia County’s residential category by building type (duplex vs. triplex). Because of that definitional difference, staff deferred a recommendation to the board and recommended the matter be decided by the board.
Brent Hunter described his work history, including remodels, new construction and work on roof trusses, excavation and foundations while employed by Scott Day. Hunter also said he had recently been working in townhome remodels and had moved to Florida within the past year. Licensing staff presented the Colorado licensure definition and the board concluded Hunter’s experience merited allowing him to sit for the residential contractor exam under local rules.
The board moved to approve Hunter’s application; the motion carried unanimously. No roll-call vote count was recorded in the transcript.
