Englewood City’s Cultural Arts Commission on a voice vote approved $3,000 for events programming and $2,000 for music for 2025, funding part of the commission’s event calendar including five First Friday nights, Celebrate Inglewood, the Block Party and the tree lighting.
The vote came after Dylan, events staff, presented a yearlong events plan that replaces Saturday markets with monthly First Friday events from May through October (skipping July). “I wanted to come and request to see if you guys would help and support in the same ways that you have in the past,” Dylan said while outlining proposed activities, interactive arts, and vendor elements.
Commissioners asked clarifying questions about amounts and scope. Commissioners moved and seconded a motion “to approve the $3,000 for the events and the $2,000 for the music.” The motion passed by voice vote; no roll-call tally was recorded in the transcript.
Why it matters: the approval commits a portion of the Cultural Arts Commission’s operating budget to programming intended to increase foot traffic and community participation in downtown Englewood. Staff said the request covers interactive arts at the events, take-and-make crafts, and support for music at First Fridays and other signature events.
Details: staff proposed $1,250 for crafty/chalk-type interactive programming across five First Fridays (about $250 per event), $500 for interactive programming at Celebrate Inglewood and $500 for tree-lighting activities (staff discussed interactive ice sculpting as an example). The music allocation ($2,000) is the same line that appeared in prior budgets for summer music programming.
The motion was introduced and seconded by commissioners; the minutes record a unanimous voice vote of members present but do not include a roll-call tally. The commission noted the city’s remaining CAC budget balance after the allocation would be approximately $20,426, as discussed during the meeting.
The commission did not identify additional legal authorities or external approvals tied to this funding decision. Staff said they will return with implementation details for events scheduling and vendor coordination.
Looking ahead: staff will coordinate the First Friday calendar, confirm vendors and interactive contractors, and present final logistics at subsequent meetings.
