Weber County outlines timeline to fill county assessor vacancy after resignation

Commissioner Sharon Bolos said the Weber County Commission reviewed the resignation of County Assessor John Eulerberry and the process for filling the vacancy at its Jan. 7, 2025 meeting.
Lauren Thomas, a county staff member invited to explain the procedure, said the county must notify the outgoing official’s political party within 10 days and the party then has 30 days to submit a nominee for the commission to appoint. "The commission is required to notify the party of the outgoing official that there is a vacancy. They have 10 days to do that from the time that the vacancy occurs," Thomas said.
Thomas told commissioners the outgoing assessor may name a temporary manager to serve during that interval. In this case, the outgoing assessor named Didi Kimber as the temporary manager to serve while the party considers a nominee. Thomas said the party’s recommendation will be forwarded to the commission, which expects to act on an appointment in January.
The discussion at the meeting described the statutory timeline and interim staffing; no formal appointment vote was recorded at the meeting. The commission’s next formal action will depend on the nomination submitted by the party representing the outgoing assessor.
