Developer announces lithium demonstration application; agency posts feasibility materials for public review

Steve Morey, representing Waterleaf Resources (a subsidiary of Lilac Solutions), used the meeting’s public-comment period to introduce a proposed demonstration plant on the north side of Great Salt Lake to test lithium extraction from brine.
Morey said the firm was finishing required approvals and preparing to begin the pilot. Ben Starman (Forestry, Fire and State Lands staff) then told the council the agency had approved the company’s feasibility application to begin the pilot process and that the application materials are posted on the agency website for public review. "If anybody's interested in seeing what's publicly available on that, you can go to our website," he said.
Council members did not take a formal vote on the pilot at the meeting; staff noted the agency will review additional materials submitted as part of the review process to determine whether a larger commercial permit would be appropriate.
Members asked staff to publicize the posted materials and invited stakeholders to submit questions and comments to agency staff for the record.
