Wright County elects Derek Vetch chair; Nadine Shane chosen vice chair; committee assignments approved

The Wright County Board of Commissioners convened its first meeting of 2025 on Jan. 7 and selected its leadership for the year: Commissioner Derek Vetch was elected chair and Commissioner Nadine Shane was chosen as vice chair. The board also approved committee assignments as presented.
Commissioner Shane was nominated for chair early in the meeting, with speaker Grady Shkreiser saying she favored rotating leadership and nominating Shane. That nomination did not receive a second and failed. Later, a nomination for Derek Vetch to serve as chair was made and seconded, and the board held a roll-call vote. The vote was 4-1 in favor of Vetch, with one member recorded as voting nay.
Commissioner Nadine Shane was nominated for vice chair and the board approved her by voice vote after a second; the clerk announced the motion passed 4-1. The board then considered committee assignments presented from a prior workshop; Commissioner Holland moved to approve the assignments and Commissioner Shane seconded. The committee assignments were approved unanimously.
These items were procedural and received limited discussion; members said rotating leadership was a consideration in nominations. Administrator Kreiser (as identified in the packet) noted there would be additional workshop agenda items the following week but did not contest the organizational motions.
The board completed other organizational housekeeping during the meeting, then moved on to regular business.
