The director said a curriculum guide for the upcoming year is in trustees’ packets and asked the board to add it to Thursday’s agenda for approval; staff attributed the late distribution to a recent career and technical education reorganization. The director said Miss Schultz led the curriculum work and trustees should raise questions before Thursday if they need more information.
Board members also discussed a proposed new assistant maintenance supervisor position. District staff said the position would require county commission approval either through use of fund balance or as part of the budget; if the board approved the position, the earliest county commission meeting for consideration would be the April session. Staff said initial preparatory work such as a job description could be drafted but that they would not post or interview for the role until county commission funding approval was received.
Staff summarized a requested scope of work for a Jefferson County High School (JCHS) pod plan. The draft scope discussed pods sized for roughly 30 students per classroom (about 600 students for a full pod), required office and program space, restroom additions, custodial and storage space, elevator access concerns (the school currently has one elevator) and expanded kitchen and cafeteria capacity to serve additional students. The scope also described facility needs if Jefferson Elementary were relocated to the former Jefferson Middle School building, including restroom modifications, early childhood accommodations and playground and technology adjustments.
None of these items were voted on at the work session; staff asked trustees to consider the items on upcoming agendas, prepare any policy revisions for the January policy committee meeting, and attend scheduled joint committee or retreat meetings announced at the end of the session.
