The Lowell Veterans Commission agreed to move forward on outreach by creating a voluntary online veterans survey, tabling at community events and arranging jumbotron and media promotion for commission activities.
The commission heard that Miss Upton invited the commission to a Boston Fleet women’s hockey community heroes night on Jan. 22, 2025, offering free tickets and tables to public servants; the commission agreed to staff a table and noted DAV volunteers, chapter commander and Adam Mitchell had expressed interest in attending. The commission clarified that free tickets must be used the night of the event.
Commissioners asked for a short voluntary online survey for the commission webpage to collect veterans’ contact information and expressed a preference for voluntary self-identification rather than assembling a list from records. James Hall and Richard Cote volunteered to draft proposed survey questions for the next meeting.
The commission also discussed a jumbotron message to promote commission presence at community events and requested help from city MIS to create a Lowell Veterans Commission group email account, rather than relying on personal addresses, so multiple commissioners can access and manage outreach communications.
