County jail mental-health provider now on-site; committee notes rise in scheduled counseling visits

Diane Hughes, the jail superintendent, said that while all the appointments are scheduled, the facility is seeing “an increase in the mental health needs.” Hughes added that the psychiatric provider is now on-site usually three times a week; previously the psychiatric provider was not on-site. Committee members asked whether inmates are aware of mental-health resources; Hughes indicated the provider’s on-site schedule has improved access.
