Board approves accounting engagement for county nursing home; construction to begin Feb. 3 with asbestos removal to go to Executive Committee

The McLean County Board Health Committee approved an engagement letter to add services from Templin Healthcare Accounting Services and discussed plans for a nursing home construction project set to begin Feb. 3.
Member Farley moved to approve the engagement letter; Member Hanson seconded and the motion passed. The engagement adds to services Templin already provides, specifically the production of the nursing home’s Medicare and Medicaid annual cost reports, Mr. Wiley told the committee.
Wiley reported that November operations were strong but that December census numbers would be lower as preparations continue for the construction project that will begin on Feb. 3. He said the facility is already moving residents off the 200 wing where work will begin and that staffing adjustments have been made. Wiley emphasized that “there would be no workforce reduction in that time frame” and that the county expects to manage through the project with a budget-neutral or better outcome.
Administrator Taylor told the committee the Executive Committee will consider an action item related to asbestos abatement near an existing water heater tank. The asbestos removal proposal appears in the executive committee packet (pages 34–38) and will use ARPA funds, Taylor said; the work is in the mechanical area of the building and is preparatory for the larger construction contract.
The engagement letter vote and construction discussion did not include any amendments to the construction contract at the Health Committee level; asbestos abatement will be presented separately to the Executive Committee for action.
