Residents urge elected school board, short-term rental exemptions and youth-focused meetings during public forum

He also alleged, without elaboration in the transcript, that some discrimination may be occurring in the school system and said he will raise that concern in appropriate forums.
Robert Wilkins of Denson Drive presented a list of six "citizens resolutions" he said reflect community priorities for the council's remaining two years in office. His requests included declaring a citywide youth emergency; holding two meetings with Councilwoman Taylor and representatives including the mayor, city manager and police officers assigned to Ward 1; expanding access to board and commission appointments; exploring lower-cost housing and property-purchase assistance; and creating an exemption to ordinance 3288 to allow Auburn residents with proof of homestead exemption to operate short-term rentals. Wilkins asked the council to "listen to your families, friends, neighbors, and yes, your constituents."
Several speakers during the forum offered praise for city programs and services including the Citizens Academy, hazardous-waste and electronics collection, the Town Creek Inclusive Playground, and Parks and Recreation offerings.
