During mayoral announcements at the Jan. 7 Auburn City Council meeting, the mayor recognized Trent Mitchell as the City of Auburn's January employee of the month for his work in the emergency communication center and partnerships with the city's GIS division.
The council also adopted a resolution honoring the Auburn High School girls cross country team for winning the 2024 Class 7A state championship. The resolution names team members and coaches and states it will be spread upon the minutes and presented to head coaches Eric Skidmore and Jake Wade and assistant coach MG Maddox.
The mayor told the council the Lake Wilmore Community Center will open for basketball next week, and the city's new Public Safety Training Center will open soon for ongoing training for local first responders and partner agencies. The mayor also said both facilities will serve as voting locations for the 2026 state municipal elections.
The recognitions and facility updates were presented as announcements and ceremonial items; the cross country resolution was recorded as adopted and will be included in the meeting minutes.
