Brentwood Town on an evening meeting at about 6 p.m. appointed Ambrose Kiza, the town's deputy treasurer, as the town treasurer and immediately moved into a closed non-public session on personnel.
The appointment was made after board members said Ambrose had volunteered and served as deputy following the retirement of the prior treasurer, Joyce. A motion to appoint him was made and seconded; the board approved the appointment by voice vote. Daphne will administer the oath, the board said, and the appointment carries no set term expiration, meaning the post is open-ended pending future board action.
The promotion follows a period in which Ambrose served as deputy treasurer performing payroll and other finance duties. "I think Ambrose will be a very professional addition to the team," a board member said during the discussion. The board noted it would later discuss small budgetary adjustments to the finance account in the budget section of the agenda.
Board members said the town will seek a deputy treasurer to provide backup when the treasurer is unavailable. The board also asked staff to enroll Ambrose as an employee and to complete required payroll and benefits steps.
Separately, after the appointment the board voted to enter a non-public session on personnel and hiring. The motion to enter non-public passed on a roll-call vote: Andy — aye; John — aye; Paul — aye; Lettie — aye; (chair) — aye. The board stopped video recording for the closed session and said the non-public portion would be recorded separately.
Discussion during open session also referenced personnel transitions elsewhere in town government. Board members said building inspector Kip Kiser is phasing down his hours and the town is seeking a new building inspector, with Kiser expected to help train any successor. The board said salary and total compensation for a new town administrator will be discussed later in the budget portion of the meeting.
