Clerk gives calendar and training notices; board schedules employee evaluation training and notes aquatic-plant work

At its Jan. 7 meeting the Bradford County clerk’s office and staff provided scheduling and administrative updates, including deadlines and training dates ahead of the county’s legislative outreach.
The clerk reported the Value Adjustment Board (VAB) organizational meeting is scheduled for Aug. 26 and the VAB hearing for Oct. 9. The first public hearing to adopt the tentative millage rate and tentative budget is set for Sept. 9; the second public hearing to adopt the final millage rate and final budget will be Sept. 23.
The board also agreed by consensus to hold employee evaluation training sessions for supervisors and employees on Jan. 9 at 10 a.m. and Jan. 16 at 3 p.m., to be held in the boardroom. The clerk noted training is for supervisors and employees and that observers should avoid substantive discussion to comply with open-meeting rules when evaluations are discussed.
Staff announced aquatic plant removal work at the Sampson River Canal will begin later this week. The clerk reminded commissioners the legislative delegation meeting is scheduled for Jan. 8 at 3:30 p.m. in the boardroom. Fire assessment workshops were discussed; staff said five sessions will be scheduled (two daytime, three evening) and a rescheduled session will be moved to an evening slot where possible; one currently listed date is Feb. 4 at 10:30 a.m.
Why it matters: The dates set the timeframe for property appeals, the budget adoption process and required staff training, and the aquatic-plant work is imminent. The legislative delegation meeting the next day was cited as the reason for expedited consensus on appropriation items.
No formal votes were recorded on the scheduling items beyond the board’s consensus to proceed.
