Bradford district prepares special-facilities application for combined campus renovations; deadline Feb. 1

Bradford County School Superintendent Christopher Hartley told the delegation the district will apply to the state for special facilities funding to renovate a combined campus housing the district’s technical college, middle school and high school. "They came and walked our campuses... and we will be filling out to apply for special facilities funding for a combination of all 3 schools on 1 campus," Hartley said.
Hartley said the district has bused students between the high school and the technical college for about 50 years, creating scheduling and instructional-time burdens, and that several buildings date to the 1970s (with some high-school sections built in the 1950s). He said Department of Education facilities staff were surprised at several safety and sight-line issues that do not meet contemporary school-safety design expectations.
The superintendent said the district’s application deadline is Feb. 1 and that, at the time of the meeting, Bradford was the only district preparing an application for the cycle; he said staff will engage delegation members and that the district will seek the lawmakers’ help next session if the DOE review supports a funding request.
No appropriation or commitment by the delegation was made at the meeting.
