City of Stark officials asked the Bradford County delegation for $2 million to continue infrastructure work tied to the Highway 16 bypass and an extension of water and wastewater service to support economic development. Mayor Redding said the $2 million request would fund the next stage of a multi-year project that originally had a much larger overall cost.
The city and county have already contributed funds and described the effort as a collaborative model where local matching and phased state support moved the project forward. “Y’all have funded us each stage that we've come along, and that's where we're at now. We're getting ready to do the construction and our request… will get us to the next stage,” the mayor said.
County Manager Scott Kornegay called the water and wastewater extension an economic-development priority; Stark officials said the project supports private investment once infrastructure is in place. Delegation members reiterated that finishing projects with demonstrated local investment is more competitive in the current budget climate and that staff will gather complete project forms for review.
No appropriation was approved at the meeting.
