Nonprofit Concerned Citizens asks delegation to help finish gym renovation and community programs

Leaders of Concerned Citizens told the Bradford County delegation the RJE center serves children, elderly residents and community programs and asked for assistance to complete roof and interior work on the facility. Alicia McMillan, speaking for the organization, said it focuses on youth programming and services for seniors and that finishing the gym and interior upgrades is vital to continue those programs.
Glenda Ruiz, vice president of Concerned Citizens, described the facility as a long-standing community resource with programs such as head start, a reading lab, summer tutoring and a community garden, and she said the gym was built in 1961. County commissioners and Stark city officials also endorsed the request and described it as a high-priority local project that supports education, health and community services.
County officials said Bradford County has already appropriated $500,000 toward the gym roof and interior work and asked the delegation to consider funding that helps finish the project. Delegation staff said they will review forms and supporting documentation and follow up; no state appropriation was made at the meeting.
