Keystone Heights Airport board asks delegation for $4.6 million to finish connecting road and intersection work

Representatives of the Keystone Heights Airport Authority asked the Bradford County delegation for state assistance to build a connecting road and related intersection improvements to fully open about 100 acres for economic development. "To fully develop this area, a connecting road between the existing airport road and the new access road is, is essential," Jim Eifert, a member of the airport authority board, told the delegation.
Eifert said the North Florida Transportation Planning Organization’s traffic analysis found intersection improvements on State Road 100 are warranted, including added deceleration and turn lanes. He said design work for the connecting road is complete and county traffic counts showed 1,623 vehicles used Airport Road during a 33‑day count period.
The airport authority gave cost figures: the 2023 estimate to construct the connecting road and intersection improvements was $3.5 million; with inflation the current estimate is $4.6 million. County staff and airport board members said finishing the project would enable commercial and light-industrial development on roughly 100 acres west of the airport and improve traffic safety along State Road 100.
Delegation members said they favor finishing projects already started and that staff will collect the airport’s paperwork for follow-up. No appropriation was approved at the meeting.
