Blue Suede Networks told the Memphis City Council’s Public Service, Arts and Youth Initiative Committee on Jan. 7 that it is building a 34100‑mile fiber network it expects to fund, construct and operate privately and to pass at least 85% of residential and business premises across the city, including services targeted to low‑income neighborhoods.
The company’s CEO, Charles Elliott, said construction has already laid about 1,000,000 feet of fiber and that the first service wave — including 2‑gigabit retail service from partner Ting — will begin this month in pockets of the city. “Team will be offering 2 gig fiber broadband service throughout Memphis, including to low income members of our community,” Elliott said to the committee.
