Mayor Duncan moved and the council adopted a resolution to continue Oakwood’s participation in the Montgomery County multi-jurisdictional National Hazard Mitigation Plan, the council said at its Jan. 6 meeting.
The resolution’s sponsor, Mayor Duncan, told the council the city has participated in the county plan “since 2004” and that the plan was last updated in 2019, when council previously adopted Resolution 1858. “I would move that council adopt this resolution tonight,” Mayor Duncan said before asking for a second.
Council members raised no questions during the discussion and the resolution passed on a roll-call vote. City Clerk Laurie recorded the vote as: Mayor Duncan — Yes; Vice Mayor Byington — Yes; Mr. Stevens — Yes; Mrs. Turban — Yes; Mrs. Jackson — Yes.
The Montgomery County plan is a countywide emergency-management and mitigation framework intended to address regional vulnerability to natural disasters; Oakwood’s continued participation authorizes the city to remain part of that multi-jurisdictional planning process in “ways that are feasible and appropriate to the city’s needs, resources, and responsibilities,” the council packet language cited in the meeting states.
The council took no additional direction or amendments to the resolution at the meeting; no dissenting votes were recorded.
The council’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 3 at 7:30 p.m., when any follow-up items would be listed on the agenda.
