Board accepts first- and second-read policy updates; new reporting and technology-use items noted

District legal/staff presenter Probst said the changes mostly reflect updated legal references, cross-references and clarifications; he described Policy 5150, “reporting to external agencies,” as a new item that summarizes reports the district already provides to agencies such as the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Probst told trustees there is not new substantive material in that policy but rather a compiled list of required reports.
Trustees also reviewed Policy 2127 (board member technology use) and Policy 3220 (technology and educational programs). The board discussed Policy 2127 as a new policy that would require board members who use district technology to follow the same appropriate-use expectations that apply to staff. One board member described the rules as “common sense.”
After questions, a motion to consider (approve) the policy revisions passed on a voice/hand vote.
