Board approves student trip funding, van support for KMEA performance and ends consultant contract for school project

The board voted to provide $3,735 in funding to partially support the GRC and RDC school van program so invited student musical groups can perform at the Kentucky Music Educators Association (KMEA) conference in Louisville on Feb. 6, 2025. The board discussed the honor of the invitation and the intent to avoid placing a fundraising burden on students and families. The motion to provide the funds passed unanimously, 5-0.
The consent agenda contained a travel request (identified in discussion as the voting team and other student group trips including a proposed bowling trip subject to weather). The board approved the consent item and added language allowing approval to apply to any rescheduled dates if the trip is canceled due to weather; the motion carried 5-0.
Separately, the board reviewed the Clark County “Pretty School Project” (transcribed name) and the agreement with PS Consulting. With the project nearing completion and the district preparing to occupy the facility, the board voted to send PS Consulting a 30-day notice to end the contract. The board said the project remains on track for mid-February occupancy and that staff had verified arrangements with the consultant; the termination notice motion passed 5-0.
In other business staff previewed a “director snapshot” series and a proposed public information campaign that will highlight district operations — for example, staff cited that in 2023–24 the district served 529,338 breakfasts and 647,685 lunches and maintains roughly 1,000,000 square feet of building space — and outlined plans for an online magazine and PR outreach.
