Human Rights Commission reports donations, upcoming community events and 2025 officers

Daryl Borden, president of the Michigan City Human Rights Commission, presented the commission’s 2024 report to the council on Jan. 7 and announced plans for 2025.
Borden listed the commission’s 2024 donations and fiscal position: donations included $200 from the Northwest Indiana Food Council, $1,000 to the Hawkins Williams Scholarship, $1,000 to the Huber Scholarship and $200 from MC Pride. The commission’s reported balance as of Jan. 7, 2025, was $6,184.95.
The commission plans to donate to scholarship funds, host its annual human-rights dinner on June 13 at the Michigan City Senior Center, and change its regular meeting time to noon at the Michigan City Police Department beginning Feb. 4. Borden also announced the commission’s 2025 officers: Daryl Bordon (president), Mary Ellen Quinn (vice president), Buddy Dumpke (treasurer) and Jamie Lorenz (secretary).
Borden thanked Councilman Don Przybylinski for serving as the commission liaison and noted the commission’s recent donation of $200 to the Federal’s Alley inclusive playground and fitness park.
Council members had no immediate questions and thanked the commission for its report.
