Michigan City council elects Tracy Tillman president, Tim Beatrice vice president

The Michigan City Common Council on Jan. 7 unanimously elected Councilwoman Tracy Tillman council president and Councilman Tim Beatrice vice president for 2025.
In a roll-call vote held after nominations, council members voted 9-0 to elect Tillman president. Following the president vote, the council nominated and elected Tim Beatrice as vice president by a 9-0 roll-call vote.
The new council president took the podium and thanked members for the nomination and their support. “I just want to assure you that I will continue to carry on the responsibilities and the duties as serving as the city council president, that I will be transparent,” Councilwoman Tracy Tillman said. “I will make sure that we carry forth and conduct ourselves and the public in a decent and an orderly manner moving forward.”
Council members offered brief remarks of thanks to outgoing leadership. Dr. Cora (spelled variously in the meeting transcript) and others acknowledged the previous president’s service before the new officers were selected.
The council handled the elections early in the agenda; no policy votes accompanied the officer selections. The council then proceeded to committee reports and regular agenda items.
