The City of Oshkosh Plan Commission on Jan. 7 approved a variance allowing a reduction and closure of door area on the front façade at 1922 Mitchell Street.
Planning staff said the owner, Chris Ramos, previously sought a variance that was denied Oct. 15, 2024. Staff worked with the applicant to reduce the glazing area by replacing a sliding glass patio door with two windows and by closing a separate front door; the applicant plans to replace the closed door with a new door of the same size and location. Staff also said the applicant has partially re-sided the home, creating a mismatch; the request did not include the remaining re-siding work because staff expects the owner to obtain the required permits and complete matching siding within the condition timeframe.
Staff recommended approval because the proposed façade changes now meet the 25% window-and-door opening requirement for the front façade and do not, in staff’s view, negatively affect the neighborhood’s architectural integrity. The commission voted 6-0 to adopt the staff findings and recommendations.
Conditions include completing required permits and re-siding the remainder of the home within the one-year timeframe specified in the staff report; if the siding is not addressed staff will pursue normal code-enforcement procedures.
