Circuit-wide Probation Committee approves annual report and reviews 2024 caseloads

The Circuit-wide Probation Committee met Jan. 8, 2025, and voted to approve its annual report covering Dec. 1, 2023, through Nov. 30, 2024, after reviewing juvenile and adult caseloads and related budget figures across LaSalle, Bureau and Grundy counties.
The committee recorded juvenile active caseloads for the 12-month period as: LaSalle County 94 active and 10 administrative; Bureau County 17 active and 7 administrative; Grundy County 20 active and 2 administrative. Adult caseloads for the same period were reported as: LaSalle County 511 active with 274 administrative; Bureau County 115 active with 69 administrative; Grundy County 136 active with 202 administrative. The committee reported a circuit total of 762 active adult cases, 545 administrative adult cases and 1,307 people on probation.
The annual financial figures presented for adult probation fees ordered and collected were: LaSalle County ordered $124,940 and collected to date $77,416.57; Bureau County ordered $20,250 and collected to date $12,152.56; Grundy County ordered $68,265 and collected to date $21,286.67. Committee materials noted the December-through-November balances and budgets for probation-related funds by county (details in committee packet).
Committee members also received an update on a juvenile in residential placement. The committee was told the juvenile has been at Focus House since Nov. 20 and is reported to be doing well; this was presented as an informational update rather than a separate action item.
The committee discussed staffing matters briefly: a Grundy County secretary announced her retirement and the committee expects to schedule interviews to fill that opening. The committee chair also noted ongoing review of new legislation relevant to probation operations, with no immediate operational changes reported.
A motion to approve the annual report was made and seconded; the committee voted in favor and the motion carried. The committee set its next meeting for Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2025.
