Health and Safety Committee urges staff to attend active-shooter training

Doug Stockley, meeting chair of the Health and Safety Committee, opened discussion at the Jan. 8 meeting by urging caution and seeking feedback on an active-shooter training course for courthouse staff. "I want to caution everybody before we go down a deep spiral here because it deals with security of the courthouse. We won't go into specifics on anything as it relates to this," Stockley said, then asked for thumbs-up or thumbs-down reactions from those who attended.
Jen, a county office employee, reported that her office's staff reacted positively. "I don't have a negative. I have a positive. Myself and all 11 employees in my office went at different times and everybody said wonderful things about it," she said. Stockley said the committee will offer the classes again for employees who missed earlier sessions and aims to have every employee attend at least one session.
Committee members emphasized the importance of participation without discussing operational security details. No formal action was taken; members asked staff to publicize future training dates and to coordinate sessions to reach employees who were not able to attend prior offerings.
