McLeod County Veterans Services reports outreach activities, welcome-home support

McLeod County Veterans Services reported to the county board on Jan. 7 about its Beyond the Yellow Ribbon activities in 2024 and early 2025.
The office said it distributed military service flag pins to 13 graduates joining the armed forces (five from Glencoe, eight from Hutchinson) and held its 10th annual Welcome Home Recognition event Aug. 18, 2024, which provided welcome-home baskets and involved 54 local businesses (19 of them new participants). A letter read during the meeting expressed a veteran's gratitude for the personalized items and community support in a welcome-home basket.
Veterans Services staff also reported participating on a reintegration team that attended a demobilization ("demob") at Fort Cavazos Dec. 6'9, 2024, alongside the Minnesota Association of Veterans Service Officers. The presenter said 473 returning service members from the 34th Infantry Division participated in that event and that three of those veterans were expected to return to McLeod County. The office emphasized its role in linking returning veterans to benefits and county veteran service officers.
Board members thanked the Veterans Services team and encouraged continued county support for outreach and reintegration efforts.
