Sherburne County commissioners approved three transportation-related resolutions during their organizational meeting: a formal request to seek state funding for an interchange at U.S. Highway 10 and County Highway 11, acceptance of a $700,000 Local Road Improvement Program (LRIP) grant for improvements on County Road 4 (near Zimmerman), and authorization to apply for $2,000,000 in Surface Transportation Block Grant Program (STBGP) funds for construction work on County Road 33 east of Highway 169.
County planning and public-works staff framed each item as part of longer-running efforts to reduce crashes, improve freight mobility and address problematic alignments. Andrew (first-name-only in the record), a county public-works presenter, told the board the Highway 10/County Highway 11 intersection has ranked highly in multiple planning studies and that the county will seek funds for design, property acquisition and environmental documentation. The request to the state legislature calls for $2.5 million in general-obligation bond funds and $2.5 million in trunk-highway funds to cover design, right-of-way and environmental work.
On County Road 4 (the Casa 4 project between 10th Street and County Road 45), staff reported that the county has secured multiple funding sources and that the LRIP award of $700,000 requires a grant agreement; the board voted to accept the LRIP funds and execute the agreement. For County Road 33, staff outlined a funding package that includes $2,500,000 in Minnesota freight funds, $2,800,000 in local-option sales tax, $1,000,000 in state aid and a request for $2,000,000 in STBGP funds to support construction and realignment work intended to correct dangerous curves and improve mobility.
Each resolution carried with affirmative votes. Commissioners said the projects align with safety priorities, and staff noted that timely action is useful while right-of-way remains available in some locations.
