A refrigerator motor caught fire early in the morning at Long Vista School, creating smoke damage to the cafeteria and causing sprinklers to activate and some water damage to the ceiling tiles.
The district superintendent said the incident occurred at "around 6:25 ish in the morning" and that SERVPRO was on site to clean and remediate the affected areas. The superintendent said the cafeteria and auditorium will not be available, but students will be served meals in classrooms and the district expects the school day to proceed without interruption.
The superintendent described building repairs that remain: sprinkler activation produced water damage that will require replacement of ceiling tiles. Staff arranged for SERVPRO to work into the evening and to return the following day. The superintendent said, "We are going to be serving food, in, students will be eating in the classroom... so we shouldn't have any interruptions to the day tomorrow." The superintendent also noted prior recent electrical work and thanked first responders and staff, saying the response was rapid and that police and bus drivers were notified as needed.
The transcript records no formal vote or policy action related to the incident; these are operational arrangements by school staff to maintain school operations while remediation proceeds.
