Deputy County Manager and Planning Director Alan (Deputy County Manager/Planning Director) briefed the Board of Commissioners on a rezoning request affecting two platted parcels on the eastern side of Burke County off Cape Hickory Road.
The application, filed by property owners John and Rita Yunt, asks the county to change zoning from General Business to R‑3 (Residential‑3) to permit single‑family housing. Alan told commissioners the two parcels together total roughly one acre and were formerly part of the property used by “72 Degrees Heating and Air Conditioning Company.” He said the parcels were platted and the change would be treated as infill housing consistent with the county’s future land use map.
Alan said the planning board reviewed the request at its public hearing; no members of the public attended the planning board hearing. The planning board voted to recommend approval by a 6–0 vote, and that recommendation will be forwarded to the Board of Commissioners at the regular meeting for formal consideration.
The board did not take a final vote at the Jan. 7 pre‑agenda meeting; the item was left on the regular meeting agenda for the public hearing and formal action.
Ending: The rezoning request will return on the county’s regular meeting agenda for the required public hearing and the Board of Commissioners’ final vote.
