Council reviews design contract for Amable Road: 1.6-mile project eyed for three-lane section with sidewalks; cemetery and retaining walls could add costs

Town engineering staff asked the council to approve a proposal with Hayworth Meyer Boland Professional Engineers for right-of-way survey and roadway design for the Amable Road corridor.

"We are currently in functional and preliminary design. We've done the survey of the entire route, which is like 1.6 miles," Charles said. Staff described a potential three-lane section with sidewalks and said the design work is being advanced so the town can budget for next fiscal year.

Council members asked for clarification about the project alignment and whether it was the Amable Road on the east side (not the west-side Amabill reference). Charles said the segment would run from Old Nashville Highway to Leave Victory Parkway and noted the road currently has narrow shoulders and pedestrians sometimes walk in the travel lane.

Kevin, planning staff, said Hayworth Meyer Boland included the old cemetery on their survey and that archaeological assessment and retaining-wall design were listed in the contract as additional services. He advised the council to anticipate potential additional costs if retaining walls or archaeological work are needed.

Staff said utility coordination will be an early next step and that the town is likely to hold public meetings once functional design alternatives are developed.
