Santaquin resident asks council to post notices before selling city property

Mark Openshaw addressed the Santaquin City Council during the public forum on Jan. 7, asking the city to publish advance notice when the city plans to sell or surplus property.
“For transparency and to avoid the perception of under-table dealings, it would be possible for the council and the mayor to publicly post notice before selling city property,” Openshaw said. He added that public notice “ensures everyone has an opportunity to participate in the buying process.”
Openshaw also asked the council to reach out to him directly rather than relying “solely on one person's opinion,” and invited the council to email him so his responses would be documented.
Council members did not take formal action on Openshaw’s requests during the meeting. The comments were entered during the public forum portion of the agenda.
