Staff: no local primary likely after Oconomowoc filings deadline for Feb. 18

City clerk staff reported to the Oconomowoc Common Council on Jan. 7 that filings for the Feb. 18, 2025 election closed at 5 p.m. and that no aldermanic district had more than two candidates, so the council does not need to decide on holding a local primary.
"This is the filings current as of 5 PM today, which is the deadline. So with no more than 2 candidates filing for any of the districts, there's no necessity for the council to decide tonight whether or not to have a local primary," said Miss Kozlak, who provided the candidate filing update.
Kozlak told the council the city still expects that the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction may have a state-level race that would necessitate a February primary administered at the state level. Council members asked no further questions, and no formal vote or action was taken on the local primary.
The update reflected filings as of the 5 p.m. deadline; the city will follow any state-level determinations about a required primary if the Department of Public Instruction reports races that trigger one.
