Chaska council approves minutes, consent agenda and bills; leaders highlight upcoming community events

The City of Chaska City Council on Jan. 6 approved routine business items including the Dec. 16 meeting minutes, the consent agenda and payment of bills. Council members also used the meeting’s other-business portion to publicize upcoming local events and noted the next regular council meeting will be Jan. 27, 2025, moved because Jan. 20 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Council Member Hatfield moved to approve the Dec. 16 minutes; the motion was seconded by Council Member Shevlin and passed on a voice vote. The consent agenda was approved on a motion by Council Member Hatfield, seconded by Council Member Benesch. The council then moved to pay bills on a motion by Council Member Grama (identified in the meeting as Grama/Graf in different places) with a second by Council Member Benesch; that measure passed after a roll-call vote with Council Member Hatfield, Council Member Benesch and Council Member Shevlin voting in the affirmative and Mayor Hubbard saying “aye.”
During other business, council members highlighted several community events: Fireman’s Park ice-fishing fundraiser on Feb. 1 to support the Chaska Fire Relief Association; a wellness expo at the community center; the city’s Martin Luther King Jr. celebration on Jan. 20 featuring journalist Shayla Michelle Reeves as keynote speaker; and expanded weekly bingo at Srammhaus Brewery supporting the Chaska Lions. Council members also welcomed a new downtown business, Jones Coffee, and invited the newly sworn council members to observe Downtown Business Alliance meetings.
City staff noted routine administrative matters including the annual rotation for mayor pro tem and reminded attendees that the EDA would meet following the council session. The council concluded by adjourning the meeting after the EDA invocation.
