Town selects six firms for two-year on-call engineering services

Fuquay Varina commissioners on Monday approved entering two-year on-call agreements with six engineering firms to provide preliminary engineering services for federally funded projects and to speed procurement under the Brooks Act.
Engineering Director Matt Poland said the town requested letters of interest and the selection committee, composed of engineering and public-utilities staff, ranked firms on qualifications, experience and approach. The recommended firms are Kimley-Horn, Exalt Engineering, Transystems, RK&K, Stantec and Kittelson.
Poland said the on-call agreements cover services such as professional engineering design, land surveying, subsurface-utility engineering, geotechnical engineering, cost estimation, project management, environmental permitting, public engagement and right-of-way acquisition. The contracts are for a two-year term with an option to extend one additional year; no fiscal note was attached to the agenda item.
A commissioner moved to approve selection of the six firms and to authorize the town manager to enter into the agreements subject to attorney review; the motion carried by voice vote.
Poland said the on-call approach should reduce schedule delays on grant-funded projects and make staff time more efficient when selecting consultants.
