He said an original or loaned statue of George Washington obtained from Mount Vernon was displayed at the Florida Capitol and that the state has approval to recreate that statue for placement in Washington County. He also said the state planned to place statues of Alexander Hamilton, James Madison and James Monroe in other counties.
DeSantis framed the project as part of a broader civic-education effort tied to a coming statewide celebration and said the state will announce additional programs in the months ahead to involve students in learning about the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
He did not provide legislative citations, funding line items or firm installation dates for the reproductions. No formal action was taken during the Bay County event beyond remarks about the program.
