The Anacortes City Council authorized a contract award Oct. 13 to purchase a replacement pump for Wastewater Treatment Plant Pump Station 13.
Council approved a purchase order in the amount of $143,754.31 with Whitney Equipment Company to acquire a critical spare pump that staff said is needed to ensure uninterrupted service while the two existing pumps — each approaching 15 years of service — are rebuilt.
Public Works staff said Pump Station 13, located at Skyline Marina, is critical to the collection system and that losing a pump could cause significant service disruptions. Purchasing a dedicated spare will allow one of the older pumps to be pulled and rebuilt without risking station outage.
Councilmember Moulton moved to authorize the mayor to sign Contract 25263SEW001 with Whitney Equipment Company; the motion passed by roll call.
The pump purchase is intended to create a shelf spare; staff said after the replacement pump arrives they will sequence rebuilds of the two existing pumps so the station will again be left with a spare available on the shelf once work is complete.
