The ordinance committee voted to recommend that the full City Council accept and expend $6,500 from the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security for the Brockton Police Department's address verification program.
Police Chief Brenda Perez told the committee the funding supports the department's address-verification work for registered offenders and for the department's offender-registry coordinator to carry out investigations and enforcement related to valid addresses. Chief Perez reported that, at the date of the report, there were 289 registered offenders tracked by the department: 70 at level 1 (11 who work in the city), 130 at level 2 (11 who work in the city) and 83 at level 3 (6 who work in the city). She said the register fluctuates as people move in and out of the city.
A motion to recommend the grant acceptance favorably was made, seconded and carried. The committee recommendation will be sent to the full City Council for final acceptance and expenditure.
