Commission asks staff to task BDO for technical memo on New River Crossing options

Commissioners discussed recent county materials and consultant notes about the New River Crossing (bridge versus tunnel concepts) and directed city staff on Jan. 7 to secure a technical memo and presentation from the city’s consultant, BDO, so the commission can review the bridge analysis.
City staff said they have been reviewing a county “Tylen” report and BDO’s observations and that a more formal technical memo from BDO is needed to evaluate the county’s bridge concept from the city’s perspective. Staff told commissioners they have funds remaining in the project budget and estimated roughly $50,000 may be available to fund a task order to BDO for the analysis.
Commissioners asked that the memo include presentation time so BDO can brief the commission and suggested inviting county officials to attend. Staff said they will issue a task order defining the memo’s scope and will try to schedule BDO to present as soon as feasible; staff proposed the commission’s second conference meeting in February or, if feasible, the Feb. 22 conference meeting.
No formal motion or vote was recorded at the conference meeting; the discussion resulted in staff direction to prepare a task order and schedule a BDO presentation using available project funds.
