Council accepts $200,000 federal grant to prepare New Ulm safety action plan

City engineering staff told the council the grant award is $200,000 and the estimated cost to develop the plan is about $250,000. Minnesota Department of Transportation IIJA funding is expected to provide the $50,000 local match; staff said aside from staff time the award will not cost the city budgeted funds. "We finally received that grant agreement and are bringing it to you today for approval and execution," (engineering staff).
The plan will identify roadway improvements intended to increase safety and reduce serious injuries and fatalities, staff said, and could open future funding opportunities for safety enhancements. The council adopted the resolution to approve the grant agreement and authorized the city manager to execute it.
