The Natrona County Board of County Commissioners elected Commissioner Dave North as board chair for 2025 by a 3–2 vote during its Jan. 7 regular meeting. Commissioners selected Dallas Laird as vice chair by acclamation and approved the consent agenda with an amendment citing Wyoming State statute 115104.
The nominations began after the meeting returned from executive session. Commissioner Dallas Laird nominated Dave North; North accepted the nomination, saying, “Yes. I will.” Commissioner Peter Nick Mason also received a nomination. After ballots were cast the clerk reported the tally: three votes for Dave North and two for Peter Nick Mason, making North the new chair for 2025.
North told colleagues he had “thought long and hard about being chairman for 2 years in a row” and that, after reflection, “it would be in the best interest of this board and this county, for me to service as your chair 1 more year.”
Dallas Laird was nominated for vice chair and accepted. With no additional nominees, the commission agreed to accept the selection by acclamation. Laird later acknowledged the light-heartedness of an uncontested selection: “It's just nice to win an election without any votes. I could vote for myself, at least I get 1 vote.”
Earlier in the meeting a commissioner moved to approve the consent agenda with an amendment to items C, D, E and F specifying the action was taken “pursuant to Wyoming State statute 115104.” The motion was seconded and carried on a voice vote; the chair announced the consent agenda approved.
Why this matters: Leadership positions determine which commissioners serve as liaisons to departments and set internal priorities; the chair and vice chair will preside over items now on the commission’s near-term agenda, including zoning, litigation and community concerns raised during public comment.
