Franklin City Council re-elects leadership, fills commissions and approves consent agenda

At its first meeting of 2025 the council elected Kenny Austin president and Sean Taylor vice president, reappointed members to the redevelopment and economic development commissions, appointed Irene Nalley to the planning commission, approved the consent agenda and set several ordinances for a Jan. 22 public hearing.
At its Jan. 6 meeting the Franklin City Council re-elected Kenny Austin as council president and Sean Taylor as vice president, approved several committee appointments, and approved the consent agenda minutes from Dec. 16.
The council opened nominations for president; a motion to elect Kenny Austin passed by voice vote with no opposition. The council then nominated and elected Sean Taylor as vice president by voice vote with no opposition. The council also reappointed two council members, listed as Anne and Josh in the meeting, to the Redevelopment Commission, and reappointed Sean Taylor to the Economic Development Commission for another term.
Senior planner Joanna Tennell noted that, "According to Indiana Code," the annual appointment to the planning commission must be a member of the city council; the council nominated and approved Irene Nalley to that position by voice vote. Clerk-Treasurer Jan Jones confirmed several ordinance items (Ordinance 2024-12 amending sewer provisions; Ordinance 24-11 repealing Ordinance 15-10 (employee handbook); and budgetary Ordinance 24-22 amending Ordinance 24-20 (salary ordinance)) had been introduced previously and were tabled to the Jan. 22 meeting for final action.
The council also moved to read old business by title only and approved the consent agenda (Dec. 16 minutes). Council members used the council comments section to thank the street department for snow removal and to express appreciation for reappointments and leadership nominations. The meeting adjourned after unanimous voice votes on the motions presented.
