The City Commission of the City of Sweetwater on Monday voted on multiple land-use and zoning matters, approving zone changes, a comprehensive plan amendment related to annexed property and other map updates.
Planning and zoning staff described the items as primarily technical and linked to property-owner requests or the recently annexed area. George Verra, a city planning official, told commissioners a zone-change request west of 108th and south of 25th Street involved property with no residential structures and is intended to allow industrial light-manufacturing uses; the commission approved that change on second reading.
Other items approved included a rezoning of a parcel at 10750 Northwest 14th Terrace from C-2 (special commercial) to C-3 (general commercial) on second reading; a comprehensive plan amendment updating future land-use maps to reflect the annexed area and associated policy updates (second reading); and a first-reading rezoning request for two parcels at 10700 and 10720 West Flagler Street to revert from a university district to commercial designation to align with existing commercial uses.
During the hearings, staff confirmed there were no houses on the site proposed for industrial zoning and that no members of the public spoke during the second readings. Commissioners moved, seconded and recorded roll-call votes on the respective items; recorded roll calls and the clerk announced that motions passed. Where applicable the items will be codified and take effect according to the ordinance and comprehensive-plan procedures.
