Committee recommends $125,000 NetVault backup software purchase for five years

The Cheyenne Finance Committee on Jan. 6 recommended a contract not to exceed $125,000 to purchase five years of licensing for Quest NetVault backup software to replace the city’s existing on-premises Rapid Recovery solution and add cloud backup capabilities.
Tyler Nelson, City IT, said the NetVault product would add cloud backup for all city email accounts and OneDrive storage; he described current OneDrive as “in a highly available environment and offers versioning, but does not offer true backup features.” Nelson said the proposed software would “replace our current solution” and add cloud backup features.
Finance Committee member Moody asked whether the city currently has any protection in case of data loss; Nelson replied that the city uses Rapid Recovery for on-premises data and server disaster recovery, and NetVault would replace those on-prem functions while adding cloud backup.
The motion to approve up to $125,000 for five years was moved by Finance Committee member Esquivel and seconded by Finance Committee member Moody; the committee recorded a unanimous recommendation to adopt at the next governing-body meeting.
