Julie, a public health staff member, told the Sawyer County Health and Human Services Board on Jan. 7 that local providers, emergency-room data and wastewater monitoring are all showing increases in influenza and other respiratory illnesses in the county.
Julie said the county’s Medical Reserve Corps received another $20,000 from the state for MRC-STRONG funding and also received a $10,000 Operational Readiness Award to support volunteer management operations. She said the community-health-assessment survey and stakeholder data have been compiled and that a steering committee will meet to prioritize community-health goals for the next three years.
Julie urged local partners to note the uptick in respiratory illness and said the health department will prioritize volunteer management and community-health-assessment next steps. There were no formal actions or budget votes tied to the grants at the meeting; staff said the new funding will support MRC operations.
