The Walton County Design Review Board on Jan. 7 continued review of a proposed monument sign for Saltaire Boulevard after staff and board members identified missing information and the applicant was not present.

Tim Brown, Planning and Development, said the application showed a monument sign measuring 120 inches by 96 inches (80 square feet) on a 1.1-acre parcel in a VMU zoning district, but the submission did not clearly show the required 911 address or a compliant letter height. Brown noted that "the code requires no less than 6 inches" for letter height and that the materials the board received appeared to show 3 inches in some places.

Board members also said the submittal lacked side elevations, construction details for the monument base and finish samples, and clarity about whether the sign would be externally illuminated. The applicant was not present to answer questions. A board member moved to continue the item to the Feb. 6 meeting and requested that the applicant provide side elevations, finish samples, confirm the 911 address for the sign, and clarify lighting; the motion passed.

The continuation was framed as a request for additional documentation rather than a denial. The board will reconsider the monument sign after the applicant provides the requested clarifications.
