During public comment at Monday’s meeting, resident Leander Metcalf told the council that Arizona Street north of Cottonwood has persistent speeding and that he is concerned for pedestrian safety.
Metcalf, who gave his address as 1634 East Evelyn Street, said he and his wife observe heavy, high‑speed traffic on the residential stretch, including larger vehicles. He described a recent crash that narrowly avoided a head‑on collision and said children use the sidewalks and there are several playgrounds along the road.
Metcalf asked the council to “be proactive to reduce the speed on that road before someone does lose their life,” saying the area is residential and that speed can be deterred and prevented. He thanked the council for their consideration.
Council did not take immediate action during the public‑comment period; public comment items were heard but the council noted that questions not on the agenda could not be answered that evening.
