Residents press council for action at Brennan–Highway 120 intersection; Caltrans reviewing accident data

A public commenter asked what steps the city is taking to reach out to the Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO), supervisors and Caltrans to pursue signalization or other traffic-safety measures prior to additional development. The commenter said traffic there is dangerous and requested a meeting update.
City staff told the council they are coordinating with San Joaquin County and Caltrans and that Caltrans is taking a closer look at accident and traffic data associated with the intersection. Staff said a long-term solution could take one-and-a-half to three years to design and build, but temporary measures such as enhanced or temporary signage are being discussed as interim steps.
Council members asked whether short-term signage or other improvements could be implemented while Caltrans evaluates longer-term changes. Staff said temporary signage and other short-term countermeasures are part of the options Caltrans is reviewing, but added that any improvements on the state right-of-way will require Caltrans coordination and may need additional permissions.
