Board prequalifies four contractors for Northeast Pumping Station rehabilitation bid

The Board of Public Works voted July 6 to accept four contractors as prequalified to bid on the Northeast Pumping Station Rehabilitation project. Acting Public Works Director Josh Morris told the board the bid opening is scheduled for the following Tuesday.
Morris said the city and its consultant reviewed prequalification forms for financial capacity, equipment, schedules and past projects and found no red flags. The four firms listed as acceptable were A-1 Excavating of Bloomer, Mid City Corporation of Butler, Stop Construction Corporation of Marshfield, and August Winter & Sons of Appleton.
"All four of these companies are companies we've all worked with for and we're comfortable enough," Morris said, noting references and company histories were considered. A board member asked whether prior work with the city is required; Morris replied prequalification focuses on financial and capacity criteria and that past work may be weighed but is not a strict requirement.
A motion to approve the listed contractors as prequalified passed by voice vote. The board did not award any contracts at the meeting; prequalification allows the listed firms to submit bids at the scheduled opening.
The board will evaluate bids after opening and return to the board for award as required by procurement procedures.
