Delray Beach rolls out My Delray Beach parking-availability feature for city-owned paid parking
Summary
The city said an app feature showing real-time availability for city-owned paid parking spaces — live for about two weeks — is now available for download; on-street spaces use per-space sensors while the railroad lot requires additional sensors before it will display availability.

Delray Beach officials on Jan. 7 demonstrated a new parking-availability feature in the city's My Delray Beach mobile app that shows open and occupied city-owned paid parking spaces on a map.
Lede facts: City staff said the app feature has been live for roughly two weeks and covers on-street paid spaces and city-owned lots but not private lots. The railroad parking lot is not yet included because staff needs to install individual sensors there; the city's single-sensor approach used on other lots does not work for the railroad lot because it has many entrances and exits.
Why it matters: The city said the app aims to reduce vehicle miles traveled from drivers circling for spaces, ease congestion in downtown blocks and improve the visitor experience. Officials said Atlantic University has run a similar system with success.
Details: On-street paid spaces are detected by per-space sensors and shown as green (open) or orange (occupied). The city's presentation included a short demo video that staff said is already posted on the city's social channels. Staff emphasized this initial rollout applies only to city-owned paid parking; private lots are not part of the display.
Next steps: Staff plans to install per-space sensors in the railroad lot and to expand coverage as sensors and funding allow. Commissioners and staff discussed sharing the promotional video on social platforms to raise awareness.
Ending: The commission thanked staff for the rollout and asked that demonstration materials and the video be circulated; the app is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
